Pulse Documentation
Welcome to Pulse! Below you'll find answers to common questions and guides to help you get started, optimize your setup, and understand how everything works.
Getting Started
Welcome to Pulse! Pulse finds and replies to the most relevant conversations on Reddit using smart keyword targeting and AI-generated replies. Whether you're promoting a product, answering questions, or building your brand, Pulse helps you do it automatically — and authentically.
What is Pulse?
Pulse is a Reddit lead generation platform that monitors conversations across Reddit in real time, identifies opportunities relevant to your business, and helps you engage with potential customers through AI-generated replies.
- Monitor: Pulse continuously scans Reddit posts and comments for keywords and topics that match your business.
- Discover: Smart filtering and lead scoring surface only the most relevant conversations, so you never waste time on noise.
- Engage: AI-generated draft replies let you respond quickly and naturally, with the option to edit or personalize before sending.
Step 1: Create your first project
Projects in Pulse are like campaigns — each one represents a niche, offer, or audience you're targeting. Start by creating one based on your product or service.
- Use one project per business, client, or product line.
- Include details that help Pulse's AI generate more relevant replies.
Step 2: Identify opportunities
Pulse uses your keywords to surface relevant posts and comments. When a match is found, Pulse then checks to see if the match is actually relevant. We filter out 99% of posts and comments that match your keywords so you only get the most relevant opportunities.
To find the best opportunities:
- Use the keywords from common questions or problems your audience asks
- Try broad terms first, then refine over time
- Include a thorough description of your project, including your target audience, core offering, and unique selling points
Step 3: Engage with leads
When Pulse finds a match, it will notify you and generate a draft reply you can send. Personalize it or send it as-is to engage directly with potential leads.
- You'll get notified when opportunities appear
- You can approve, edit, or skip replies
New user setup wizard
When you first sign up, Pulse walks you through a guided setup wizard that helps you create your first project step by step. The wizard will prompt you to:
- Describe your product or service so Pulse can generate relevant keywords and replies
- Configure your initial keywords and subreddit filters
- Set your promotion preferences

Projects
Projects are the foundation of Pulse. Each project monitors specific topics across Reddit for a particular product, service, or audience. Think of each project as a separate campaign with its own keywords, filters, and settings.
General project settings
Every project has a few core settings that shape how Pulse finds and engages with leads on your behalf:
- Project name: A label for your own reference (e.g., "SaaS Product Launch" or "Freelance Services").
- Description: A detailed description of your product, target audience, and unique selling points. The more specific you are, the better Pulse can tailor AI-generated replies.
- Website URL: Your product or landing page link. When promotion is enabled, Pulse may include this link in replies where it fits naturally.
Keywords
Keywords are how Pulse finds relevant Reddit conversations for you. You can configure them in your project settings under the Keywords tab.
Basic keywords
These are simple phrases that Pulse looks for in Reddit conversations. For example:
- resume writing
- make money online
Pulse will search for exact matches in Reddit posts and comments.
Advanced keyword matching (AND/OR logic)
Combine words intelligently. For example, to match posts like "how do I earn extra income?" or "get more money online", you could group keywords like:
- Group 1: earn, get, make
- Group 2: income, money, salary
Negative keywords
Negative keywords help you filter out irrelevant matches by excluding posts and comments that contain specific terms. These work with both basic and advanced keyword matching.
- Basic example: If you're promoting a legitimate business opportunity, you might exclude "scam", "pyramid", or "mlm"
- Advanced example: For a SaaS product, exclude "free", "pirated", or "crack" to avoid low-quality matches
Adding and editing keywords
To manage your keywords, open your project settings and navigate to the Keywords tab. From there you can:
- Add new keywords or keyword groups
- Switch between basic and advanced (AND/OR) mode
- Add negative keywords to refine your results
- Remove or edit existing keywords at any time
Subreddit Filters
Subreddit filters let you control which Reddit communities Pulse monitors. By default, Pulse searches all of Reddit for your keywords, but you can narrow or exclude specific communities to fine-tune your results.
Subreddits (inclusive filtering)
Add subreddits to your project to target specific communities. When you add subreddits, you can enable the "Only match content from these subreddits" toggle to restrict monitoring exclusively to those communities.
- Toggle off (default): Pulse searches all of Reddit for your keywords. Listed subreddits are used as a signal for relevancy scoring but do not limit where matches come from.
- Toggle on: Pulse will only find keyword matches from the subreddits you have listed. No other communities will be monitored.
Negative subreddits (exclusive filtering)
Negative subreddits let you block communities that consistently produce irrelevant or unwanted matches. When you add negative subreddits, you can control how strictly they are enforced with the "Completely block content from these subreddits" toggle.
- Toggle on (default): Pulse will completely ignore any content from the listed negative subreddits during keyword matching. Posts and comments from these communities will never appear as matches.
- Toggle off: Negative subreddits will only reduce relevancy scores for content from those communities instead of blocking them entirely. Matches may still appear but will be ranked lower.
Tips for choosing subreddits
Selecting the right subreddits can significantly improve the quality of your matches:
- Look for communities where your target audience actively asks questions or seeks recommendations
- Include both large general subreddits and smaller niche ones for broader coverage
- Check a subreddit's rules before engaging — some communities have strict self-promotion policies
- Use negative subreddits to block communities that produce consistently irrelevant matches
Semantic Queries
Semantic queries help you find relevant content by understanding the meaning behind your search terms, not just matching keywords. This approach is especially useful for finding conversations where people are asking questions or discussing topics related to your business in natural language.
How semantic queries work
Semantic queries capture the actual questions your prospects ask — natural-language phrases that reveal intent. Pulse compares every Reddit post or comment to these queries, surfacing conversations whose meaning aligns with your offer even when the wording differs from your keywords.
Tips for crafting effective queries:
- Write each query as a full question or sentence (e.g., "Which CRM is cheapest for freelancers?").
- Focus on the problem or goal rather than your brand name.
- Mirror the everyday language your audience would type.
- No special characters or boolean operators needed — Pulse handles the semantics.
- "How do I automate customer support with AI?"
- "What's the best project-management tool for remote teams?"
- "Is there an affordable CRM for solo entrepreneurs?"
When to use semantic queries vs. keywords
Keywords and semantic queries complement each other. Here's when to lean on each:
- Keywords are best for catching specific terms, product names, or well-known phrases your audience uses.
- Semantic queries are best for finding conversations where people describe a problem or ask for advice without using your exact keywords.
Promotion Settings
The "Promotion" toggle controls whether Pulse will try to promote your product or offer when replying — typically by including your website link or brand name when it feels natural and relevant to the post.
- ON:Pulse will try to naturally include a link to your website or a brief mention of your service (e.g. "we help startups get their first 100 users") when the post's context supports it.
- Example: On a post asking how to get early traction for a SaaS tool, Pulse might reply with:
"We struggled with that too — our team at AcmeGrowth helps SaaS founders grow via Reddit. Here's a breakdown we wrote: acmegrowth.com/reddit-playbook" - Example: For a question about promoting a course, Pulse may say:
"You might want to try answering questions on Reddit. I've seen success that way — we built a platform that automates it: promotehub.io" - OFF:Pulse will still generate helpful, relevant replies — just without any link or mention of your brand or service.

Lead Discovery
Pulse continuously scans Reddit to find conversations that are relevant to your business. This section explains how lead discovery works, from monitoring Reddit in real time to reviewing matches in your dashboard.
Reddit Monitoring
What Pulse monitors
- ✓All public Reddit posts and comments
- ✓Across all subreddits (or your filtered list)
- ✓In real time, around the clock
How keyword matching works
When new content appears on Reddit, Pulse checks it against your project's keywords and semantic queries. Here's the high-level process:
- Content ingestion: Pulse picks up new posts and comments from Reddit as they are published.
- Keyword matching: Each piece of content is compared against your keywords (basic or AND/OR groups). If it contains a match, it moves to the next step.
- Relevancy filtering: Pulse's AI evaluates whether the match is genuinely relevant to your business. This step filters out roughly 99% of keyword matches that are off-topic.
- Lead scoring: Relevant matches receive a lead score based on multiple signals, helping you prioritize the best opportunities.
If you're not seeing matches
There are a few common reasons why matches might not appear right away:
- Your keywords may be too narrow or uncommon
- Try switching to advanced mode with AND/OR keyword groups
- Try broader or alternative phrasing
- Use fewer groups — too many AND groups can be overly restrictive
- Add semantic queries to catch conversations that use different wording
How leads appear in your dashboard
The leads list
When Pulse finds a relevant conversation, it appears in your matches list — the main view in your dashboard. Each match shows:
- The Reddit post or comment text with your matched keywords highlighted
- The subreddit and author information
- A lead score indicating how relevant the match is to your business
- An AI-generated draft reply that you can review, edit, and send
Lead statuses
Each match has a status that tracks where it is in your workflow:
- New: A fresh match that you haven't reviewed yet
- Replied: You've sent a reply to this conversation
- Skipped: You've decided not to reply to this match
Filtering and sorting
Use the filters at the top of your matches list to zero in on what matters most:
- By status: View only new, replied, or skipped matches
- By lead score: Focus on high-intent matches first
- By subreddit: See matches from specific communities
- By date: Sort by newest or oldest matches
Understanding lead context
Context matters
Each match includes context that helps you decide whether and how to engage:
- Parent post context: For comment matches, you'll see the original post the comment belongs to. This helps you understand the full conversation before replying.
- Subreddit context: The community where the conversation is happening. Different subreddits have different cultures, rules, and expectations — tailor your replies accordingly.
- Author information: Basic information about who wrote the post or comment, helping you gauge whether they're a good fit for your offer.

Lead Scoring
How Scoring Works
Pulse evaluates and scores every lead to help you focus on the best opportunities. Our system uses a two-dimensional scoring approach that considers both how relevant a lead is to your business and how likely it is to convert into an opportunity.
Relevance Score (0-100)
"Is this about your problem space?" Measures how closely the content matches your project's topic, keywords, and target audience.
Opportunity Score (0-100)
"Is this worth replying to?" Measures the conversion potential based on the author's intent, problem severity, and how naturally you can engage.
These two scores combine into a final Lead Score, weighted 80% toward relevance and 20% toward opportunity. The author type also acts as a modifier, boosting scores for active buyers and reducing them for bots or competitors.
Score Thresholds
Every lead falls into one of three buckets based on its final score:
- High leads are strong opportunities worth immediate attention. They appear in green.
- Medium leads have potential and are worth reviewing. They appear in yellow.
- Low leads are lower priority but may still be worth monitoring. They appear in red.
Relevancy Filtering
Pulse uses advanced AI to automatically filter out irrelevant matches, ensuring you only see high-quality opportunities. Our system combines multiple approaches to achieve 99% noise reduction.
- AI-Powered Relevance Scoring: Every match is analyzed by our AI models to determine how closely it aligns with your project's goals and target audience.
- Fine-Tuned Learning: The system uses a fine-tuned relevance model that learns from your manual feedback (thumbs up/down) to continuously improve accuracy. This becomes the strongest signal once you provide enough feedback.
- Semantic Understanding: We go beyond keyword matching to understand the actual meaning and context of posts and comments.
Adjustable Threshold Slider
You can adjust the fine-tuned relevance threshold to control how broadly your feedback is applied. A lower threshold catches more variations, while a higher threshold applies feedback only to very similar matches. Start with the default and adjust based on your results.
Relevance Score Components
The relevance score combines multiple weighted signals to determine topical fit. Each factor contributes proportionally based on its weight:
Fine-tuned Relevance
Learns from your manual feedback (thumbs up/down) to understand what content is most relevant to your business. This is the primary signal and carries the most weight in the relevance calculation.
Semantic Query Matching
AI-powered content matching based on your semantic queries. These understand context and intent, not just keywords, and serve as your primary automatic relevance signal.
Author Type
Identifies whether the author appears to be an active buyer, qualified lead, evaluator, industry expert, competitor, or bot. This helps prioritize genuine business opportunities.
LLM Classification
AI-judged relevancy that evaluates how well the content aligns with your project description and target audience.
Content from your target subreddits
Fresher content is prioritized
Location and language match
Keyword frequency in content
Community engagement signal
Market size indicator
Opportunity Score Components
The opportunity score evaluates conversion potential by analyzing the author's intent and context. Each factor is weighted and combined:
Problem Level
Is there a clear problem being described? Content with explicit pain points scores highest.
Context Level
Is this a real-world business scenario? Real-world and practical contexts score higher than casual or theoretical discussions.
Solution Seeking
Is the author actively looking for solutions? People who are searching for answers are far more likely to convert.
Vendor Fit
Does your product or service fit their need? Strong fit means your offering directly addresses what they're looking for.
Stakes Level
How important is this to the author? Higher stakes mean more motivation to find and pay for a solution.
Help requests and recommendation asks score highest
How naturally you can respond with a recommendation
Demographics Filtering
Demographics filtering lets you target Reddit leads based on geographic and linguistic signals. Pulse automatically extracts location and language information from Reddit content using AI, then factors this into the overall lead score.
- Target Countries — Select countries from a searchable dropdown (e.g., United States, Germany, Japan)
- Target Languages — Select languages from a searchable dropdown (e.g., English, Spanish, French)
- Target Regions — Enter regions as free-text tags (e.g., California, Bavaria, Ontario)
- Target Cities — Enter cities as free-text tags (e.g., San Francisco, Berlin, Tokyo)
How Demographics Scoring Works
Demographics matching contributes 15% of the relevance score. Within the demographics score, each sub-factor has its own weight: Language (40%), Country (30%), Region (20%), and City (10%). If a lead's demographics cannot be determined, it is not penalized — unknown demographics are treated neutrally.
Country Mismatch Filtering
When both your target countries and a lead's detected country are known, Pulse automatically marks leads as not relevant if the countries don't match. This acts as a hard filter to prevent clearly out-of-market leads from cluttering your results.
Understanding Your Scores
Here is how to interpret the scores you see in the dashboard:
Lead Score Badge
Each match shows a color-coded badge (green for high, yellow for medium, red for low) with the percentage score. This is your quick reference for lead quality.
Score Breakdown
Click into a match to see the detailed breakdown of how the score was calculated, including individual relevance and opportunity factors.
Filter by Score
Use the score filters in your matches dashboard to show only high-intent leads, helping you focus on the best opportunities first.
Best Practices for Better Scores
- Fine-tune your keywords for better relevance — specific, targeted keywords produce higher-quality matches
- Use semantic queries for nuanced matching — these capture meaning and intent beyond exact keyword matches
- Provide feedback on matches to improve the AI — even a few thumbs up/down ratings make a noticeable difference
- Configure demographics filters to target your ideal customer — focus on the markets that matter most
- Write a detailed project description — this helps the AI understand your offering and score vendor fit accurately

AEO Opportunities
What is AEO?
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the practice of making sure your brand shows up where buyers are actually looking — inside search results and AI-generated answers. Reddit threads frequently rank on the first page of Google and are now heavily cited by tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews.
The AEO Opportunities page surfaces the Reddit threads that already rank for the searches your customers are making. Each opportunity is scored by how valuable it would be to influence, so you can focus your time on the threads that will move the needle for your search visibility.
How AEO Opportunities Are Discovered
Pulse runs a continuous pipeline that finds and refreshes AEO opportunities for your project:
Generate search queries
Pulse uses your project description, keywords, and semantic queries to produce buyer-intent queries someone would type into Google.
Fetch live SERP results
For each query, Pulse pulls the current Google results and keeps any Reddit threads that rank on page one.
Enrich and classify
Each thread is pulled from Reddit, checked for brand and competitor mentions, and classified for relevance to your product.
Score and rank
A final AEO score is calculated from seven weighted sub-scores so the most valuable opportunities rise to the top.
AEO Score Components
Every opportunity has an overall AEO score made up of seven sub-scores. Each one answers a different question about how valuable it would be to influence the thread.
SERP Value
How prominently the Reddit thread ranks in Google for the target query. Higher scores mean the thread is closer to the top of the SERP, so influencing it has more search visibility impact.
Competitor Presence
Whether competitors are already being mentioned in the thread. Higher scores mean more competitor mentions to displace — a bigger opportunity to insert your brand.
Brand Absence
Whether your brand is currently missing from the thread. Higher scores mean your brand has no mention yet, so there is open room to add one.
Engagement
Upvotes and comment activity on the underlying thread. Higher scores mean a more engaged audience is reading the thread, so a reply has more reach.
Newer threads are more likely to be seen and indexed
Authority and audience quality of the host subreddit
Commercial intent and specificity of the underlying search query
Using the AEO Opportunities Page
The AEO page is designed so you can go from a list of opportunities to a concrete action in a few clicks.
- Top Opportunities highlights the highest-scoring threads across all your queries — a great starting point.
- Preset chips and filters let you narrow the list down to what matters right now, like threads missing your brand, threads where competitors are present, or threads above a specific score threshold.
- Click any row to open the opportunity detail sheet, which shows the full score breakdown, Reddit context, detected brand and competitor mentions, and a one-click draft starter.
- Hover the lead score in the table to see the grouped Relevance, Opportunity, and AEO bars with a breakdown of each sub-score.
Getting the Most Out of AEO
- Start with high-impact threads — prioritize opportunities with strong SERP value, high competitor presence, and your brand absent.
- Be genuinely helpful — AEO works best when your reply answers the question better than what's already there. Reddit users and search engines both reward quality.
- Refresh regularly — search results shift constantly. Re-running the pipeline keeps the opportunity list aligned with what's actually ranking today.
- Keep your project details sharp — the better Pulse understands your product, the better its search queries and classifications will be.
